This Ultra-rare Ferrari Is One Of The Most Iconic Dinosaur Cars Of All Time, And Is Now Available To Buy

You have the chance to win one of the most desirable Ferrari Dinos in history.

A 1973 Dino 246 GTS in chairs and lantern configuration is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer. The yellow Spider is one of the rarest examples of the car, and based on the opening bid, it is set to sell for a huge sum.

It’s hard to believe today, but there was a time when Ferrari was interested in making an affordable sports car. That car was the 206 GT, a sleek V-6 that debuted in 1967 and was to be sold under the new Dino marque, named for the late son of company founder Enzo Ferrari. The coupe looked great, but its powertrain was not as desired, so two years later a more powerful version was released, called the 246 GT. The car, which will also be available in a top-end Spyder Targa (246 GTS) version, will prove to be a success. More than 3,500 examples were produced between 1969 and 1974, an unprecedented number of production units for Ferrari at the time.

1973 Spyder model, chassis no. 05830, has the added feature of being a rare “Chairs and Torches” example. The configuration’s distinctive name refers to the Daytona-style seats (“chairs”) and flared wheel arches (“torches”), which were necessary to accommodate the wider Campagnolo wheels. Only 91 US examples will leave the factory in configuration. he looks

The two-seater Giallo is finished in Fly Yellow and has a removable black targa roof. According to the listing, it has Nero Connolly leather interior, a racing-style Momo steering wheel, Borletti air conditioning, and a Baker AM/FM radio. Under the hood you’ll find a 2.4-liter four-barrel V-6 engine with a Weber carburetor. The engine produces 189 horsepower and 166 Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. This example has 77,000 miles, but its maintenance history is well documented – the oil was changed last October – and it appears to have been kept in immaculate condition.

It’s no surprise that this 246 GTS is cheap. The price has already reached $535,000 with more than nine days left in the auction. With four bids already submitted, the price is sure to rise in the coming days.
