Audi Just Unveiled The All-electric Q6 E-tron SUV, Here’s What We Know

Audi has unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron. The Q5-sized premium battery-powered crossover is more than just a new model from the German luxury brand. The Q6 e-tron is the first Audi model to be built on the automaker’s brand-new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, and according to Gernot Döllner, Chairman of Audi AG, it signals the “next technological leap in premium electric mobility” . Audi has worked jointly with Porsche to develop a new PPE architecture (also used in the all-electric Porsche Macan) that will underpin the two brands’ next generation while maintaining the unique driving characteristics that characterize each automaker. Will support next generation electric vehicles. Audi has also launched the performance-focused SQ6 e-tron alongside the Q6 e-tron, order banks are already open for European customers and deliveries will begin in summer 2024.

Pricing for the all-wheel drive Q6 e-tron will start at €74,700 (about $80,000), while the all-wheel drive SQ6 e-tron will cost €93,800 (about $100,000). US prices are not yet available, but we expect them to be lower than these figures. Audi dealers in the United States will begin taking orders for the Q6 and SQ6 this summer, with deliveries starting before the end of 2024.

Audi says both versions of the model will set new standards in performance, range, charging speeds, driving dynamics and design. The company has released preliminary performance figures for European-specific models that show the Q6 e-tron will generate 285 kW (382 hp) and accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 130 mph. Will pick up speed per hour. The SQ6 e-tron will produce 380 kW (510 hp), reach 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and have a top speed of 142 mph.

Audi of America tells us the US version of the Q6 will have more power: 422 hp, with a boost mode that increases power to 456 hp, accelerating to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds using the launch control system . For American customers, the SQ6 will have the same 510 horsepower as the European model and will accelerate to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

As far as range goes, Audi rates the Q6 e-tron at 388 miles per charge, but that’s based on the European WLTP test cycle, which is consistently optimistic compared to the US rating. However, the Q6 should have a range of over 300 miles in the EPA test cycle, which is impressive for an all-wheel drive luxury crossover. Audi says more efficient, rear-wheel drive versions of the Q6 with longer range will be available after the initial launch. Is there an electric Audi with over 400 miles of range in our future?

The Audi Q6 and SQ6 electric vehicle versions will be equipped with a completely new 800-volt electrical architecture with a maximum charging speed of 270 kW. At a Level 3 fast charging station, the Q6 e-tron’s 100 kWh battery should be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes, restoring 158 miles of range in 10 minutes. The braking system of the Q6 is also set to set a new standard in efficient energy recovery: 95 percent of braking energy is returned to the battery and provides braking system charging rates of up to 220 kWh.

The Q6’s advanced technology extends far beyond its powertrain. A new generation of exterior lighting, including LED headlights and OLED taillights, allows owners to choose from eight different digital light patterns. The taillights are also linked to local emergency services and other communication streams, allowing them to relay accident and breakdown information to other drivers, similar to digital signs on a motorway.

The luxurious interior offers advanced convenience features such as an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster that connects to a 14.5-inch central touchscreen angled towards the driver. A dedicated 10.9-inch front passenger screen, invisible to the driver, is a first for the brand and allows video streaming as well as controlling a wide range of vehicle controls. The Q6 also introduces a new head-up display with augmented reality. This technology can display images that appear up to 600 feet away from the driver’s view. This allows the system to “overlay” navigation directions on the windshield, giving the driver exactly where they are going.

Most traditional automakers are still in the early stages of developing their electric vehicles, but Audi considers itself a veteran of the technology as it prepares to launch the second generation of electric vehicles. Many new electric cars from Audi (and Porsche) after the 2025 Q6 and SQ6 will use the PPE platform. Even though some brands are slowing down their EV development programmes, Audi seems to be moving ahead at full speed.
