The Latest Nissan GT-R May Also Be The Last

This version of Godzilla has possibly reached the end of the road.

No, we’re not talking about the movie monster that won its first Oscar, but we’re talking about the Nissan GT-R. The Japanese automaker on Thursday unveiled the 2025 version of its flagship sports car. Rumor has it that this will be the last R35.

Japan has produced its share of sports cars over the decades, but there are two at the top of the mountain – the Toyota Supra and the GT-R, which is a spiritual successor to the famous Skyline GT-R. The current generation of the latest R35 model was released in 2009, and earlier this month Japanese magazine Mag-X reported (via Car and Driver) that it will be discontinued after the 2025 model year and the final version Will be prepared in limited numbers. ,

As has been the case for most of the R35’s life, the latest GT-R is more an improvement than a modernization. The photos accompanying the announcement show a muscular coupe with a spacious body that looks almost identical to last year’s update. According to the press release, eight different trim levels will be available: Pure Edition, Black Edition, Premium Edition, Premium Edition T-Spec, Track Edition, Track Edition T-Spec, Nismo and Nismo Special Edition. Both premium models feature a stylish new interior color called Blue Heaven. All models will have aluminum nameplates and gold-coloured license plates in the engine compartment.

Thursday’s announcement was light on specifications, but the automaker said the engines in the premium edition T-Spec and GT-R Track Editions have been upgraded with high-precision, weight-balanced piston rings, connecting rods and crankshafts. Every version of last year’s GT-R was powered by a hand-built 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. The mill produced 565 hp. And 467 Nm of torque and 600 hp in variants other than NISMO. And 487 Nm of torque in Nismo cars. As has been the case since the launch of the R35, every version of the new GT-R comes with all-wheel drive. he looks

Nissan has yet to confirm or deny Mag-X’s story about a future R35 (and did not immediately respond to Robb Report’s request for comment). The company said production of the car will be limited to 2025 – even though it didn’t mention a specific number – so that part of the report is correct. The company has yet to announce details about the US-spec GT-R, including whether it will go on sale or not, so confirmation on the fate of the R35 may come soon.

Maybe then we’ll know whether its successor coming in 2030 will actually be electric?
